UGA CURO
Through the Center of Undergraduate Opportunities (CURO), undergraduates can pursue faculty-mentored research regardless of discipline, major, or GPA as early as their first year. CURO programming supports students in identifying and selecting opportunities, choosing a mentor, and presenting and publishing their work.

Each year the CURO Research Award provides 500 scholarships of $1,000 each to outstanding undergraduate students across campus to actively participate in faculty-mentored research in any discipline. Because of the scholarship nature of the award, students must be registered for a course during the semester in which they receive the award. Receiving a CURO Research Award qualifies for Experiential Learning credit if you present at the spring CURO Symposium.
CURO awards Summer Research Fellowships to support University of Georgia undergraduates interested in pursuing intensive, immersive, faculty-mentored research during the summer. In addition to financial support, Summer Fellows enjoy collaborative workshops, lectures, and other events with their cohort. Summer Fellows receive a total of $3,000 as a scholarship.
Through the CURO Conference Participation Grant, we provide support for undergraduate students to present their research at conferences throughout the United States. Awards consider your progress in academic and research endeavors, the quality of your essay, and the fit between participation in the conference and your academic and professional goals.
All undergraduates have the opportunity to earn 4000-level course credit for individual research pursued under the direction of a UGA faculty mentor through three sequential CURO research courses (4960R, 4970R & 4980R).
If you are also a student in the Morehead Honors College, these courses count as Honors credit and are part of the thesis and internship elective capstones.
CURO research courses satisfy the university’s Experiential Learning requirement. CURO recommends that you consult with your academic advisor to best determine whether the course satisfies your individual college requirements.
Undergraduates at the University of Georgia are eligible for CURO graduation distinction dependent on their involvement in undergraduate research. This includes earning course credit, completing a thesis, and presenting at the annual CURO Symposium.
