General Tips

  • Begin writing your statement at least a month in advance. 

    • An excellent personal statement cannot be written the night before an application is due. ​

  • Edit and revise multiple times. ​

  • Ensure that your statement is fully answering every aspect of the specific prompt. 

  • Have your statement edited by the UGA Career Center, professors, or peers. 

  • Express extreme specificity in your statement. 

    • If you only need to change the name of the school or program if you are reusing the statement, it needs to be more specific for each program. ​​​
